Eve Picquette has had a long career in risk management in hospital corporations. She served as Director of Risk and Quality Management and Hospital Counsel for corporations in California, Arizona and Florida. She has a master’s degree in Community Mental Health from Vanderbilt University and is a licensed attorney in California, graduating from University of California, Davis. She’s here today to talk about her book, Open Your Heart for Happy Relationships – 10 Shift Keys – What Your Angels Have Been Trying to Tell You for Centuries.
Welcome to Blogcritics, Eve! When did you begin your career as a writer and what got you into the self-help/inspiration genre?
I have done a lot of writing in my career as an attorney. This started as some quick relationship help sheets I wanted to give away as gifts on my website. Then I started designing it around the angel theme, had the angel portraits painted and it grew from there. It is a beautiful gift book and has been a fun project.
What challenges do you face when starting or working on a book?
I don’t usually write unless I have something running around my head wanting to get onto the page. But I do second-guess myself and worry that I might be too direct or too vague and most of all, that it might not be interesting!
What was your inspiration for Open Your Heart for Happy Relationships – 10 Shift Keys – What Your Angels Have Been Trying to Tell You for Centuries?
I was inspired by the experiences I have had with angels over the years. I am a mix of the romantic hopeful vision of life and the practical and pragmatic. I wanted to know why my life wasn’t working very well. When I did find techniques and ideas that worked– I wanted to share them. Angels had inspired me to hope and helped me find answers – and once I had the beautiful angels painted to illustrate the book, I had to finish the book!
Who do you write for?
The content is for anyone that wants to be happier and have happier relationships. But since it has an angel theme and it is a beautiful gift book – it looks a bit “girly” so it will appeal more to girls and women.
What do you hope readers will get from your book?
Love is the answer, but don’t mix it up with being an unselfish martyr.
There are simple tools that miraculously fix some of the automatic things we do (learned in childhood) that keep us unhappy and our relationships unfulfilling!
